Degenerate Art

Art Siprut's first couture collection, titled “Degenerate Art”, is a modern interpretation of a 1937 art exhibit of Jewish, communist, and “unpatriotic” fine art confiscated by the Nazi party, preceding the holocaust, in an attempt to humiliate expression that disagreed with the fascist state. As a Jewish American, I see the modern political landscape mirroring that time period, with the vilification of black, brown, queer, and Jewish people by our administration. But this collection, unlike the original that shamed free expression, is a celebration of those that disrupt our modern autocrats.
